Why Enter the US Recruitment Market?

More Revenue in the Largest Recruitment Market in the World

More Revenue in the Largest Recruitment Market in the World

For 2022 the global staffing industry is estimated to have generated $622.5 billion in revenue, of which, the US accounted for the number one area for revenue, generating $212 billion.

To put the enormous profit-making opportunity into perspective, US IT temp recruitment revenue is almost the same as the entire UK recruitment market, at $41.7 billion vs the entire UK recruitment market predicted to be worth $54 billion in 2022.

The US Recruitment Market is A LOT Less Saturated than the UK

Even though the US is approximately 40 times bigger than the UK and has a population around 5 times the size, it may come as a surprise to you that there are more recruitment agencies active in the UK vs US.

This presents the perfect opportunity to enter the US,  especially when we’re often told by UK recruitment founders that the US is also much more receptive to their services in a highly transient market.

Higher Billings Fees in the US

The saying really is true; ‘everything is bigger in the US’ including the salaries, which translates to higher markups. Many of our UK recruitment clients who have started placing candidates with US clients charge an average 25-45% in fees, with many going in at 35% vs around 15-20% in the UK.

When you compare UK vs US recruiting, recruiters in the US are doing the same duties they would be doing in the saturated UK market but for double the margins.

How to Enter the US Market?

We’ve covered the why, now how do you enter the US recruitment market?

As explained at the event, there are two main methods: ‘Recruit from afar’ and ‘land and expand’.

1) Recruit in the US From Your Home Office

You don’t have to physically be in the US to start recruiting there. The majority of our recruitment founder clients recruit in the US from the UK first to test out the market and build traction. Starting out with this method enables you to gain valuable insights and build revenue with less risk and financial commitments. You can also build your consultants knowledge so you can deploy tried and tested talent once the time comes to land and expand.

But how do they recruit in the US without being based there?

Our recruitment clients utilize our employer of record solution to cover their contractor's onboarding, payroll and employment compliance in any state. This means all UK recruiters to do is find US clients and source candidates during US hours.

2) Land and Expand in the US

Once you’ve built enough business traction in the US and done your market research, it’s time to land and expand. PGC are here every step of the way to help you narrow down the best state for you, provide US expansion advice, and payroll your contractors and internal recruitment consultants in any state.

We built a guide based on the typical steps our clients take when they’re ready to establish a presence in the US, which you can download for free.
