Ever wondered what the payroll and accounting team gets up to on a daily basis at PGC? We spoke to Carie, our Accounting and Payroll Associate based in Michigan, to find out what a typical day entails and learned some fun facts about her along the way!

1. What is your job role?

I am an Accounting and Payroll Associate. I work with the accounting team to ensure that all worker’s pay data is processed correctly and on time.

2. What does a typical day in your role involve?

A typical day involves:

  • Entering time in our payroll processing software for payment

  • Reviewing our schedules for accuracy

  • Entering new employees into our payroll software

  • Implementing any changes that the employees may request to their profiles

  • Creating invoices for clients, and;

  • Completing audits with our payroll manager to ensure that all worker’s pay and deductions are processed correctly.

3. How/why did you get into the payroll industry? 

I was a registered dental assistant for 17 years and was looking for a career change. I accepted a job in a different company to work as a HR assistant and I ended up working very closely with the payroll coordinator. I quickly realized that I would enjoy working in the payroll industry. Therefore, I furthered my education in payroll and tax. Since then, I have never looked back and feel like I made the best decision transitioning into the payroll industry.

4. What do you like the most about working in payroll at PGC?

My team! Our accounting team is absolutely amazing. I enjoy working with each and every one of them, we all compliment each other so well. We definitely have the “dream team”.

5. Have you learned anything interesting about working in payroll within the staffing industry/ with international companies expanding to North America?

Working in the staffing industry and with international companies adds complexity to our job. We not only set up taxes, PTO  and sick leave policies in multiple states, but we pride ourselves on implementing compensation exactly how our clients request. The accounting team has created effective and accurate processes to ensure that all aspects of an employee’s compensation are processed correctly.

6. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a teacher.

7. What is your favorite quote?

8. What is one interesting thing about you your colleagues may not know?

I am a home renovation and interior design junkie.

9. What is your idea of the perfect day?

A good cup of coffee in the morning, followed by a fun day with my family and an evening bike ride.

The smiley face! 😊
